The Problem With Sarah Palin
There certainly has been a hoopla going on since John McCain announced Sarah Palin as his running mate. I, like everybody else, was surprised by his choice. Being a listener of NPR I had heard of her before, back when she defeated Murkowski in 2006, and they pointed out that Alaska wasn't the type of place you'd expect to find a woman running things.
Anyway, the point I want to make is this...while I don't agree with all her politics, she 'seems' like a regular person. She makes mistakes, goes hunting and fishing, has a daughter that got knocked up, smoked some pot, got pissed at her ex-brother-in-law, plays the flute, etc. Everybody keeps saying that she doesn't have this type experience or that type experience so she can't be vice president or, God forbid, president if the situation arose. Then on the other hand people keep harping on "change". "We've got to have change!" Does it ever occur to anyone that if we keep sending the same people with the same experience to Washington that we'll always have the same result? That's Einstein's test for insanity folks. Do the same thing repeatedly expecting different results each time.
Recycling politicians isn't good for the environment or our economy. Obama's choice for VP was amazing to me. Biden will most assuredly put both his feet in his mouth before November. I admire his outspokenness, but the way the media works, he'll surely say something they can seize upon in the next two months.
Sarah Palin is probably willing to drill as many holes in Alaska's North Slope as necessary to suck out the last drop of oil technically possible. She doesn't believe that the greenhouse effect is impacted by man-made sources. She is against inclusion of polar bears on the endangered species list because it may hamper oil exploration.
Here's my point. Put Obama, Biden, McCain, Palin in a bag, shake 'em up, close your eyes and pick two. It doesn't make it bit of difference what order you put them in, you get the same results. They're professional politicians living on money provided by taxpayers and special interest groups, making promises that they think will make them the most popular and powerful people in the world. Our founding fathers were honored and humbled to hold the position of president. They often doubted their ability to fulfill the duties and responsibilities that came with the office. During my lifetime I've NEVER seen a politician that recognized their weaknesses or was humbled to hold their position. Have you?
Everybody I've asked, no matter race or sex, has told me that they wished there was someone else to vote for this year. I want to write in a candidate, but in order to do that it requires an absentee ballot. Ain't democracy great?
